Any GR:3/GR:AW thoughts those who bought it?
« on: May 08, 2006, 04:29:45 AM »
Just wondering what the feedback is from those who picked up GR:3/GR:AW.

Played a bit around with the demo and wasn't overly impressed.  Biggest drawback I can see is the demo needed some pretty serious rig hardware to run full on.  That's a bit dissapointing considering HL:2 has been out over a year, looks just as/even better and needs no where near the resources a game that's virtually been in development for the last 3 years.

Or maybe I'm just growing bored with the formulaic nature of the shooter genre.  Who knows?

I saw Matrix's post saying the online play was leaving room to be desired.  Another drawback IMHO.

Anyways, just looking for feedback from the folks I know and play with and what ya'll have to say.

I played pretty heavy over the weekend trying to get a better feel for the online play.  Everything was just so fricken laggy.  Finally I got into a server ran by the AFZ clan.  The gameplay was actually smooth without much lag.  Heck, it ran better on their server in MP than it doesn on mine in SP.  Yes-the game is a resource hog monster.  I still do not understand why they released the game without adversarial play.  The domination game type isn't that much fun.  I will say this, if you have the machine to run it and can find a decent "lagg free" server, it plays very tatical.  GRIN still needs to add some non urban maps to the mix though.  It is growing on me--slowly.

Open up the ports that you need opened if you have a anti-virus program. I think it says somewhere what ports, I'll try and find that out for ya.

I love it.  I still have not played on a system that is actually fast enough to allow me to run the graphics full-out, but it is VERY pretty.

Can't wait to play more online..

I've tried it on both demo and the release version..  but not sure if I'll buy it as it's quite laggy even in single player with the grafx turned low.  and I'm running a 3gig, with 256 memory and 1 gig ram..

Well, I must admit that the game is getting better.  I think it helps that one overcomes the fact that Old GR will never be duplicated.  Yes, you have to upgrade like a mofo just to get the thing to run decent (BTW Bishop/Terrack-what a 7800 going for now a days) and it remains under the oversight of Ubi$oft.  Hopefully when this big patch comes out in June it will meet most of my expectations.  Until then I continue to troll along the small towns somewhere in 3rd world Mexico where apparently they drink a lot of sodas out of cans due to I keep kicking them in game every two seconds.

LOL MATRIX! Ok everybody, I finally went out and got the game today, and of course I have the same problem as Canibal does. I tried opening up the ports ( they are in your readme file Canibal if your still trying 2 figure out which ones to change) and it DIDNT WORK! My internet is fine but it still doesnt let me get on gamespy. Im gonna go post on FC and see if anyone there can help me. Usually Drone solves all my computer problems for me, but if anyone here can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. But so far single player is great.

For those of you using PCIx16..... either way you gonna be out some major $$$ just to play it decently enough. My only question to those who are playing, is it really worth me spending the $$$ to play it???

Alright I fixed her and have been playing online a lot lately, but I have 2 say, the domination game seems 2 much like Battlefield, and I wish the maps were smaller, I still have no friggen clue where I am or where the enemy is coming from. The map up in the right hand corner doesn't do shit. So when do you guys all play? Saw you guys on last night but I was still trying 2 get her fixed and when I finally did, everyone was off.Hope 2 gaming with ya guys sometime soon.

I agree...no way my wife is going to let me spend $300 just to play one game...on top of that I'd need to up my PSU to 600watts ..and there goes another $130...I am torn between building a new one as well but I wanna wait till the new OS from MS comes out before I do that....damn so many choices and not enough $$$$ to go around.

Samurai bro, the problem is that when you're registering don't just hit tab or click on the next line, hit enter. That fixed everything for the registering part. When you login, the username will turn green at  the bottom and you'll know that its working. If you connect to games and you either keep on getting disconnected or no servers show up, if you have anti-virus software, that could be problem, make sure GRAW is in its exception lists for internet access, and make sure that the following ports are open.
Local Ports:
UDP 15250
UDP 13139
UDP 15250

Remote Ports:
UDP 15250
TCP 80
TCP 6667
UDP 13139
UDP 27900
UDP 27901
TCP 28910
TCP 29900
TCP 29901
UDP 29910
TCP 29920
Hope this helps bro. P.S. If it still doesn't work, I recommend a reboot, thats what helped my internet work for GRAW, and make sure 2 defrag after installing the game, helps performance as well.

Thanks for that Crazy man...

I'll try it when I get home, last night all I got was that my email address already had an account associated with it (for all 3 email addresses I tried) but that the password was wrong!!!

I hate GaySpy, need to get the Hamachi PW but never anyone on the FC TS when I go looking...
